Retrograde wine is an ode to the past with a modern flare. The design is based on the Dada Art Movement (Dadaism) created in reaction to World War I. The avant-garde movement’s original purpose was to reject the capitalist society of the early 20th century. Dadaism was the way these artists contested their outrage with war, nationalism, and violence. Issues that we are still facing today. Their art form of choice was creating powerful collages with anything they felt could send a message. From newspapers and political propaganda to sheet music and poetry. This art form was a way of giving a cultured middle finger to The Man.
My personal take on this project was to contrast the aesthetic of the 1950’s with the bold sarcasm of today’s women who are fed up with society’s expectations of them.
